As part of our Give It a Go Campaign "Save the Hedgehogs", University of Winchester student Annie Zygmunt has written a story about Hedgehogs at night...

It seemed like a great night to go on a walk last night. So I prepared myself to leave my Hedgehog House and went out into the night.

As nights are, it was cold and dark, but I could see some beautiful stars in the sky. It was late, from what I could tell by the dark blue sky, and I didn't expect any humans to walk past. After all, why would they go outside when it's THIS late, right?
Well I was wrong.

I took a seat by my favourite tree, admiring the starry sky, when suddenly the sky lit up in colours that didn't belong in the night sky. There were reds, pinks, yellows and greens, and very loud scary noises. It all happened so suddenly, and I didn't know what was happening.

I ran back to my Hedgehog House, hearing laughter from the humans around.

Why would they be laughing? The sky is being attacked, and the noises are so loud.
Why are they laughing at this misfortune?

Do they know that this behaviour can hurt me and my family?

Finally I make it back safe, back inside my home.

I wish upon the starry sky that everyone stays safe, and be careful of us little ones while they go out and play.
